Off late, there has been a lot of talk on the return of Ford back in Indian market. As per reports, the Blue Oval is set to make a comeback here with the Toyota Fortuner rival, the Endeavour. The American maker is also gearing up to introduce its first electric vehicle in India, the Mustang Mach-E.
When Ford was exiting India in 2021, the company announced that it would introduce the electric coupe via the direct import route. Well, now it’s confirmed, that Ford is planning to bring the Mustang Mach-E as it has trademarked the all-electric vehicle.
Although Ford hasn’t shared any timeline on when the Mustang Mach-E will make its debut in India but it’s safe to say that the EV is expected to enter the market as a direct import. The Completely Built Unit route will allow Ford to bring in up to 2,500 units without homologation.
In 2021, Ford officially announced its exit plans from India and put up both its Chennai and Gujarat plants for sale. While the Gujarat plant was sold to Tata Passenger Electric, Tata Motors, Ford pulled out on the sale of the Chennai plant - not wanting to completely a lucrative market on a full scale.
