The Utitility Passenger Vehicle Invicto from the stables of Maruti Suzuki will begin its bookings from June 19, as confirmed by the carmaker. Invicto is a badge-engineered sibling of the Toyota Innova Hycross, and this is going to become the Maruti's first vehicle priced above Rs 20 lakh in Indian market. After Ertiga and XL6, Invicto is the third from brand Maruti.

Addressing to the media, Shashank Srivastava, executive director at Maruti Suzuki said,

“Traditionally, so far, we have been looking distinctly at an MPV buyer and an SUV buyer. However, in this segment, the more we researched into it, found that there was a segment for a premium, three-row vehicle buyer, and it seems to be having very strong cross consideration. In that regard, it appears to be a single segment with similar requirements, similar motives to buy and similar income category.”

Similar to the Grand Vitara, Toyota would be producing the MPV at its Bidadi plant. The Invicto which is told to be based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform, using its 2.0-litre Strong-Hybrid PowerTrain, which translate that Maruti will be paying a royalty to Toyota for the same. Both 7 & 8 seater configurations will be expected with Maruti's Invicto.

With extra cost for the tech, the Invicto would therefore be priced at a slight premium over the equivalent of Innova Hycross variant. Official pricing will be announced in July expected to be priced above Rs 20 lakh. As far as the specs is concerned, most of the options are expected to remain unchanged from Hycross.

Confirmed by Maruti, the Invicto will be powered by the Hycross' 183hp, 2.0-litre Strong-Hybrid PowerTrain mated to an e-CVT transmission. A 173hp, 2.0-litre petrol unit is also expected to be offered on lower entry-level variants, mated to a good old CVT transmission. This makes the Invicto being the first from Maruti brand to be offering with automatic transmissions.

Of course, the Invicto will have cosmetic differences to stand apart from its Toyota sibling.
